Saratoga Harness Racing Recap Wednesday 6/10
Wolfpack Zach is the winningest horse thus far this season at Saratoga Casino Hotel and on Wednesday afternoon, the rising star added another victory to his tally. Trained by Joel Flanders, the four year old Wolfpack Zach began his season competing against younger trotters at the Spa and after an early winning spree has climbed the ladder all the way up into the Open. Wolfpack Zach prevailed in his debut in the Open on May 25th when he went coast-to-coast in 1:54.1, the fastest trotting mile of the year at Saratoga. Last week, the up-and-comer made a break as the favorite in the $18,000 Open Trot but avenged on Wednesday when he scored on the front-end in 1:54.2 with Jacob Cutting at the controls. Picture of consistency But Why (Jimmy Devaux) came from well off the pace to finish second in the feature while last week’s Open winner Spaaaanzano (Kyle Swift) finished third. But Why, last year’s Horse of the Year at the Spa, has now hit the board in nine of his ten starts in 2026. Wolfpack Zach’s Wednesday win was his eleventh on the season, more than any other horse in ‘26 at the Spa. He was the public’s 4-5 betting favorite in what was his second Open score of the campaign.

Saratoga Harness Racing Recap – Tuesday 6/9
Soft Shot became the winningest distaffer in the Fillies and Mares Open this season at Saratoga Casino Hotel when on Tuesday, the top-flight lady pacer scored in the $18,000 feature for the fifth time in 2026. Soft Shot has been utilizing a mix of early speed and closing ability to put together the strong resume from her first season of racing at the Spa. On Tuesday, Soft Shot was co-favored at odds of 8-5 while starting from post four for her try in the ladies’ feature. Kyle Swift is the regular driver for Soft Shot and flashed speed with the top-flight five year old who made the lead in a speedy 26.4 first quarter before reaching the half in 55.4. The Jaymes McAssey-trained mare showed no signs of letting up, rattling off three quarters in 1:23.4 before scoring in 1:52.4 to set a new seasonal mark on Tuesday. The victory was the fifth in the Fillies and Mares Open this year for Soft Shot who has earned over $60,000 on the campaign. Longshot Macarena Wink (Billy Dobson) sat the pocket to the winner before finishing second while Vel Cinderella (Aaron Byron) earned the show spot in her local debut. The win was one of three on the day for the 20 year old Swift who sits atop the driver standings this season in his first year of piloting full-time at Saratoga. Soft Shot is owned by Paul Oneil of Saratoga Springs.

Saratoga Harness Racing Recap – Monday 6/8
Frisco Bay N (Downbytheseaside) won his fourth Open Pace of the season at Saratoga Casino Hotel when on Monday afternoon the Jackie Greene trainee pulled off a bit of an upset. Frisco Bay N blasted off the gate to leave from post four and got to the front with relative ease in a first quarter clocked in 27.3. The 9-1 shot rattled off a half in 56.4 before standing tall in three quarters of 1:24.4. Pocket-sitter Mr Mclaren N (Larry Stalbaum) displayed a surge in the stretch but wound up second-best to Frisco Bay N who stopped the timer in 1:52.4 for his fifth seasonal score and fourth in the local Open Pace. The six year old was piloted to the win by Jimmy Devaux who also sat behind Ahi Sunshine when that former Spa award-winner posted a dazzling 1:51.4 win on Monday’s matinee. The card featured a six-pack in the bike for reinsman Aaron Byron who enjoyed his best day of the season piloting six winners on the fourteen-race program.

Saratoga Harness Racing Recap – Tuesday 6/2
He’s So Smart (American Ideal) scored a front-running win in one of the co-featured races on the Tuesday card at Saratoga Casino Hotel. The Melissa Beckwith trainee finished third in his local debut last week when participating in the New York Sire Stakes Excelsiors. The three-year-old pacer was the 4-5 betting favorite in his division of the $9,700 non-winners of two race lifetime pace contested on a beautiful afternoon in the Spa City. He’s So Smart surged out to the lead under the guidance of reinsman Aaron Byron and cruised through a first half in 58 seconds. The favorite never faced an anxious moment while rattling off three quarters in 1:27 and pacing away to win in 1:56.1. He’s So Smart bested pocket-sitting Always On Par (Chris Long) by a length and three-quarters. Prince Of Terror (Wally Hennessey) closed to finish third. It was the second win in four seasonal tries for the three year old pacer who is owned by Pollack Racing LLC.

Saratoga Harness Racing Recap – Monday 6/1
Trainers Gary Levine and Rob Harmon each recorded hat tricks on the Monday card at Saratoga Casino Hotel. Levine, a former training champ at the Spa, added three wins to his bulky 2026 tally when trotters Rina Labelle and Full Scale repeated to join Levine stable newbie Dojea Gingerale in recording Monday victories. Rob Harmon brought a quartet of invaders to town for the matinee and scored a trio of wins. Trotters Memento Mori and Uncle Rat overcame difficult journeys to secure Monday scores while young pacer Bee Perfect (Chris Long) registered her first career win breaking her maiden in 1:59 by the slimmest of margins after enduring a first-over trip. The Levine trio of winners was piloted to their scores by Jimmy Devaux who went wire-to-wire for each of the victories. Harmon utilized the driving services of Chris Long for his wins with Uncle Rat and Bee Perfect while current leading driver Kyle Swift sat behind Memento Mori who completed the hat trick on the day for Harmon. Swift piloted three winners on Monday including one in the $18,000 Open Trot with Spaaaazano for conditioner Jackie Greene.

Saratoga Harness Racing Recap – Saturday 5/30
Prairie Rocknroll was the runner-up in back-to-back installments of the Open Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel heading into Saturday’s try in the feature. The Kyle Spagnola-trained pacer was once again the betting favorite in the $18,000 this week and flashed early speed in the Open before yielding for a two-hole journey behind last week’s winner Humble A. Humble A cruised through a first quarter in 27.1 and a half in 56.2 while Prairie Rocknroll, the 6-5 favorite, rode the coattails of the leader. Billy Dobson popped the pocket with the Spagnola trainee approaching the three quarter pole and Prairie Rocknroll quickly surged by to take the lead. Longshot Imtheblackflash N (Chris Long) shook loose late in his debut in the Open to close sharply and finish second in the mile that was clocked in 1:52.2 while Mr Mclaren N (Larry Stalbaum) came on to be third. Prairie Rocknroll now owns three wins and a pair of seconds in his five starts in 2026. The Open winner is owned by Laurie Poulin of Barton, NY.
Live racing continues on Sunday and will feature a Pick Five carryover of $2,653 in the early Pick Five on the matinee card which starts in race one.

Saratoga Harness Racing Recap – Tuesday 5/26
Dustbin Spy (Chapter Seven) sprung the upset in the $16,100 feature on Tuesday afternoon at Saratoga Casino Hotel. Competing in a “Pop Up Final” for young trotters, Dustbin Spy was dismissed at odds of 16-1 despite finishing second in his seasonal debut last week. Claude Huckabone III drove the Dylan Huckabone-Miller trainee to the runner-up try in his first start of the 2026 campaign and once again sat behind the four year old who competed mostly in the Fair Circuit in his freshman season of ’25. The favorite broke just after the start of Tuesday’s Final which opened the door for an upset and Dustbin Spy recorded just that as he picked up cover following a first half that went in 59.3. Tracking the every move of rival Lucky Ellie (Wally Hennessey), who cleared past three quarters in 1:29.3, Dustbin Spy quickly took dead aim and reeled in that one around the final turn before powering away to score in 2:00.2. In the stretch, Dustbin Spy held off a late bid from Commisary Note (Chris Long) who ended up as a runner-up for the second consecutive week. Longshot Alwaysbemyania (Jacob Cutting) came on to finish third. The win was the first pari-mutuel victory in the young career of Dustbin Spy who paid $34.22 to win in the feature upset.

Saratoga Harness Racing Recap – Tuesday 5/19
Trainer Jaymes McAssey is seeking his first career training title at Saratoga Casino Hotel and on Tuesday afternoon, the meet’s leading conditioner added three wins to his bulky 2026 tally. McAssey started out the day strong when Many Moons Ago (Tall Dark Stranger) prevailed in his Spa debut. McAssey acquired the young pacer in recent weeks and had him in to go for the first time on Tuesday. Kyle Swift, who nurses a small lead in the driver standings in his first full year driving at Saratoga, piloted the trio of McAssey-trained winners guiding Many Moons Ago and three year old trotter Credito (Credit Winner) to front-running scores in their debuts under the guidance of McAssey. Fennel Hanover (Stay Hungry) came from well off the pace on Tuesday to record his second victory in four local starts and complete the hat trick for McAssey and Swift. McAssey came into the week’s action with a small lead over defending training champion Melissa Beckwith with nearly four months of the racing season complete. The 20 year old Swift has been more than impactful in the sulky at the Spa announcing his presence with authority and climbing to the top of the driver standings in ’26.

Saratoga Harness Racing Recap – Monday 5/18
But Why recorded his fourth Open Trot victory of the season on Monday afternoon when the defending Horse of the Year at Saratoga Casino Hotel went coast-to-coast. Scott Mongeon trains the five year old But Why who has followed up his award-winning campaign with a strong 2026 season in which he has hit the board in all eight starts including his four Open scores. In Monday’s installment of the $18,000 Open, reinsman Jimmy Devaux moved But Why out to the early lead where he cruised unopposed through first-half fractions of 27.4 and 57.2. The even-money favorite looked strong every step of the way and opened up a bit past three quarters in 1:26.1 before putting the finishing touches on his fourth seasonal score stopping the timer in 1:55.1. Last week’s Open winner Ordained (Billy Dobson) closed well to be second while Platinum As (Aaron Byron) came on to finish third. But Why is owned by Steve and Laura Stewart.

Saratoga Harness Racing Recap – Saturday 5/16
A victory in the feature highlighted a huge afternoon on Saturday at Saratoga Casino Hotel for driver Wally Hennessey. The veteran Hennessey returned to town last month and wasted little time making an impact in the sulky. On Saturday, the Hall of Famer piled up five winners on the matinee card led by a score in the Open Pace behind the Jackie Greene-trained Frisco Bay N. Frisco Bay N (Downbytheseaside), a two-time Open winner early in the season at the Spa, marched out to the early lead in the $18,000 feature. Setting sizzling fractions of 26.4 and 55.4 in lap one, Frisco Bay N felt just mild pressure through three quarters of 1:24 while bracing for pocket-sitter Prairie Rocknroll (Billy Dobson) who followed the leader’s every move throughout. The even-money favorite in the feature, Prairie Rocknroll popped the pocket around the final turn and made a run at Frisco Bay N in the stretch before coming up second-best in a 1:52.1 mile. Longshot In Excess N (Larry Stalbaum) finished third. Frisco Bay N’s win was his fourth of the season and third in the local Open Pace. For Hennessey, the Open victory was one of five on the afternoon in what was the biggest day of the 2026 campaign for the 69-year-old seasoned veteran. Wally piloted three winners for trainer Brett Derue on Saturday.
