Binge On Yankee was the favorite in the $100,000 Joe Gerrity Jr. Memorial Pace contested late in the summer at Saratoga Casino Hotel. The Jaymes McAssey-trained pacer was one of the dominant forces in the Invitational races that led up to the Gerrity Final scoring two victories to go with a second and third place finish in his four starts that qualified him for the Gerrity Final. Kyle Swift has piloted Binge On Yankee in all of his local tries and sat behind the six year old in Saturday’s $18,000 Open Pace in which the McAssey trainee was the 7-5 betting favorite. A winner of the Open two starts back, Binge On Yankee flashed early speed in Saturday’s feature and made the lead. Cruising unopposed through a first quarter in 27.3 and a half in 56.4, Binge On Yankee felt just mild pressure late in the mile from pocket-sitting invader Red Blooded (Wally Hennessey) who finished second in his debut in the local Open in a race that went in 1:53. Longshot Rock Solid Express (Billy Dobson) earned the show spot. Binge On Yankee’s win was his seventh of the season and fourth since coming to the Spa in early August. The earner of over $640,000 in his career is owned by Mark Eaton and Bob Griffin of Massachusetts.
Live racing continues on Sunday with a matinee that begins at 12pm.
