Saratoga Harness Racing Recap Monday, 3/4

Snowpiercer (Muscle Mass) sprung a mild upset in the Monday feature at Saratoga Casino Hotel. The Jackie Greene trainee flashed early speed in the $15,000 Open Trot and made a relatively easy lead. Brett Beckwith settled the five-year-old in on the engine and after moving quickly through a first quarter in 27.4 backed it down to the reach the half in 58 seconds. The favored By The Book rushed up on the outside to challenge Snowpiercer who held firm and rebuffed the track’s defending Horse of the Year before being met with challenges from Deadline Hall (Aaron Byron) and Malibu Kid (Matt Athearn) in the stretch to prevail by a head in a mile clocked in 1:58.1. Snowpiercer, who is owned by Janie Kellogg, paid $14.80 to win in his first victory of the season. Deadline Hall finished second while Malibu Kid earned the show spot in the Monday feature. Beckwith piloted the Open winner for the second consecutive day as he guided The Good Doctor to a Sunday Open Pace score.

Live racing continues on Tuesday afternoon with a matinee that begins at 12pm.
