Hall of Fame reinsman, Wally Hennessey, piloted four winners at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Saturday night (Sept. 21), including the winner of the Open Pace, Pickup Man Hanover. Jaymes McAssey trains the five-year-old gelding for owners Dennis and Simone Noud of Saratoga Springs, New York. Hennessey also scored with SG Summer’s Dream, Soul Assassin, and Jolly Harbour.
On Sunday, Saratoga Casino Hotel’s leading driver, Brett Beckwith, extended his win count on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 22) with another five trips to the winner’s circle. The 21-year-old has 254 wins for the year at the Spa to date with over $2 million in purse earnings. At just 21 years old, he also currently holds the lead in the dash at Plainridge Park and sits second in the North American driving wins category.
Five-year-old Arizona won the Fillies and Mares Open on Monday afternoon (Sept. 23). Trainer, Mark Beckwith, teamed up with Wally Hennessey in the featured race for female pacers. Hennessey and Beckwith teamed up for another win with Smooth Landing who wired the field in a $9,500 race for trotters. All told, Hennessey made five trips to the winner’s circle on Monday, continuing what has been a masterful 2024 campaign.
Live racing resumes on Saturday evening (Sept. 28) at Saratoga with a first post set for 5:00 pm. Saturday’s card features first leg of the Gary Kamal Memorial Pace. Sunday’s (Sept. 29) card will feature the first leg of the Jim Derue Memorial Trot, and Monday (Sept. 30) will feature the first leg of the Bunny Lake Pacing Series for fillies and mares. Post time Sunday and Monday is 12 noon.
