SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (September 8, 2017) – Saratoga Casino Hotel is holding a contest where two winners will be selected to play alongside over a dozen legendary athletes in a celebrity softball game during the All-Star Sports Festival on Saturday, September 23.
Beginning Thursday, September 7, interested participants are encouraged to visit Saratoga Casino’s Facebook page and submit a photo of themselves showing their ‘game face,’ and tag the names of 4 friends they would bring to the game. Submissions will be accepted through September 14, and the two winners will be randomly selected from all entries on September 15. Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
Athletes confirmed to be in attendance for the All-Star Sports Festival include: Reggie Jackson, Goose Gossage, Wade Boggs, Jose Canseco, Mickey Rivers, Graig Nettles, Lawrence Taylor, Otis Anderson, Ron Turcotte, Jean Cruget and Steve Cauthen. Recently, former shortstop Ozzie Smith and Saratoga racing legend Angel Cordero were added to the lineup. A full roster is available on SaratogaCasino.com.
The marquee event of the day takes place at noon when two teams composed of the athletes will play an exhibition softball game on a field constructed at Saratoga Casino Hotel. Legendary racing announcer Tom Durkin will provide commentary throughout the game. Both winners of the social media contest will receive a roster spot, 4 tickets to the game, and a custom jersey that will be worn by all players.
“Being able to say you’ve played next to Jose Conseco in the outfield or got the chance to hit a pitch from Goose Gossage would be pretty remarkable,” said Tom Wiedmayer, General Manager of Saratoga Casino Hotel. “We can’t wait to be able to give that once-in-a-lifetime experience to the two lucky winners of our contest.”
Following the conclusion of the game, local bands The Refrigerators and Skeeter Creek will be performing on an outdoor stage and a variety of local food trucks will be on hand. The athletes will be available during an autograph and memorabilia show where guests can purchase exclusive merchandise, autographs and photo opportunities with their favorite players. Pricing varies by athlete.
Tickets for the softball game are $10 and are on sale now at SaratogaCasino.com. A portion of all ticket sales will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region. Admission to the softball game for children 12 and under is free.
