Mugshots Bro (Jailhouse Jesse) continued his recent hot streak on Sunday afternoon at Saratoga Casino Hotel. Trainer Lisa Zabielski acquired the seven year old trotter just a month ago and following a second-place finish in her first start with him, Mugshots Bro has gone on to win the Open Trot three consecutive times for his new stable. On Sunday, despite being assigned the outside post in the $15,000 feature, the rising trotting star was the public’s 1-2 betting favorite. Reinsman Jimmy Devaux sat back in the early going with Mugshots Bro before unleashing him heading to the half. With the track’s defending Trotter of the Year Ulster (Jay Randall) carving out a first half in 57.2 while traveling unopposed, Mugshots Bro kept plugging away first-over before putting Ulster away around the final turn. Mugshots Bro drew away to win by almost three lengths in 1:55.1, just a fifth of a second shy of the lifetime mark he set two weeks ago (June 9th) in the first of what would be three straight victories in the Open Trot. Ulster was the runner-up to Mugshots Bro on Sunday for the second time in the last three weeks while Cartier Volo (Frank Coppola Jr) earned the show spot. The exacta and triple with the favorite on top paid $10.60 and $25.00, respectively. Mugshots Bro is owned by Amy Dowd, Herman Niedhammer and Herman Niedhammer Jr, all of New York.
Live racing resumes on Wednesday afternoon at Saratoga with a matinee set to begin at 12:00 Noon.
