Harness driver, Matthew Athearn, started driving at Saratoga Casino Hotel in December of 2022. The Maine native grew up in the harness racing business with parents, Mark and Gretchen Athearn, and grandfather, Edward Rohr, all involved in the sport.

Matt scored his 1,000th career driving win in December of 2023 at Freehold Raceway. with 90 wins and over $1 million in purses from 846 starts at Saratoga Casino Hotel in 2023, Matt was the recipient of the 2023 SCH/SHHA Johnny Page Driver Breakthrough award.
