Brown Brinny (Jereme’s Jet) became a rare distaffer to win back to back tries in the Fillies and Mares Open at Saratoga Casino Hotel this season. The Brittany Robertson-trained mare was the public’s 6-5 betting favorite on Friday as she looked to repeat off her first victory in the $18,000 local feature last week. Dan Cappello Jr. situated Brown Brinny into the pocket as rival Glenferrie Bronte N (Bruce Aldrich Jr) took the early lead. The fractions were fast in the Open and after Glenferrie Bronte N dispatched one challenge, she didn’t have enough to hold off Brown Brinny in the stretch. Brown Brinny matched her lifetime mark with the win which came in 1:53.4. Glenferrie Bronte N was the runner-up while It’s A Miracle (Jimmy Devaux) closed sharply for third. Five year old Brown Brinny moved over the $200,000 mark in career earnings with the Open score. The exacta and triple paid $18.40 and $120, respectively with the 6-5 favorite on top.
Live racing continues on Saturday night with a first post time set for 6:45pm.
