Pirate Hanover (Captaintreacherous) won the $15,000 Open Pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Saturday (Nov. 23). Aaron Byron owns, trains and drives the six-year-old pacer who stopped the timer in 1:55. Tulhurstsantanna A (Shawn Gray) was a strong second while longshot Little Willy (Mitch Cushing) came on to finish third. Five divisions of the Charlie Hoffman Pacing Series were contested on Saturday. Driver Jim Devaux won three of the divisions and scored five driving wins on Saturday’s card.
Larry Stalbaum trains and drives Malibu Kid (Wishing Stone) who won the Open Trot for the fourth time this season at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Sunday (Nov. 24). Shark Racing Stable owns the six-year-old gelding. Last Sunday’s Open Trot winner, By The Book (Jay Randall), came in second, and Dealin With Dewey (Aaron Byron) took the show spot. Three divisions of the “Bullet” Bob Meyer Memorial Trot on Sunday with wins going to Defcon Seelster (Phil Fluet), Cash N Chrome (Brett Crawford) and Storm Bringer (Brett Beckwith).
Dragons Lucky Lady (Dragon Again) prevailed in the Fillies and Mares Open at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Monday (Nov. 25). Per Engblom trains the six-year-old mare and Chris Long was in the sulky. Alittlesidehustl (Billy Dobson) was the runner up, and the favorite, Remy Brown N (Mark Beckwith) finished third. Brian Gordon and the Morrison Racing Stables own Dragons Lucky Lady. Engblom had a training double on Monday’s card when his three-year-old trainee, Flower Shops (Leon Bailey) won for owner Morrison Racing Stables.
Driver Aaron Byron had his best day since coming to Saratoga Casino Hotel when he won four races in a row on Tuesday (Nov. 26). Byron’s first win was with Expert Tutor who is trained by Jared Bothwell for owner Sara Baillargeon. Margaret Spagnola scored a training double when Byron piloted On A Whim and Premier Victor to wins in their races. Spagnola, Buzanowski and Licari own On A Whim and John Urbanowicz owns Premier Victor. Byron’s last win on the card came in race six when he drove Jackie Greene-trained Classic Jim to victory for owner Kellogg Racing Stables, LLC.
Live racing resumes on Saturday evening at Saratoga with a first post time of 5:00 pm. There is a $20,899 carryover for the Jackpot High Five. Post time for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday is 12:00 noon.
