Blood shortage continues: Donors needed for July 26 Blood Drive at Saratoga Casino Hotel
A thousand blood donations needed daily to prevent further delays in patient care

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (July 19, 2021) — Saratoga Casino Hotel is teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a Blood Drive on Monday, July 26. Members of the local community are urged to join dozens of Saratoga Casino Hotel team members to give blood from noon to 6pm inside the hotel ballroom.

While donors across the country have rolled up a sleeve to give this summer, the need for blood and platelets remains crucial for patients relying on lifesaving transfusions. The American Red Cross continues to experience a severe blood shortage and donors of all blood types – especially type O and those giving platelets – are urged to make an appointment to give now.

Donors who give now will help stock the shelves for the rest of the summer season. Schedule an appointment to give blood or platelets by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code SARATOACASINO, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.

Right now, the Red Cross needs to collect more than 1,000 additional blood donations each day to meet current demand as hospitals respond to an unusually high number of traumas and emergency room visits, organ transplants and elective surgeries.

To thank donors who help refuel the blood and platelet supply during the blood drive, all will receive a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card via email, $5 Gift Card to Fat Paulie’s Delicatessen in Saratoga Springs, an automatic entry for a chance to win gas for a year (a $5,000 value), and a chance to win a trip for four to Cedar Point or Knott’s Berry Farm. For more information and details on the giveaways visit rcblood.org/fuel and rcblood.org/CedarFair.

Over the past decade, Saratoga Casino Hotel blood drives have collected over 1,100 pints of blood.

“This is the 22nd blood drive that we have hosted with the American Red Cross,” said Alex Tucker, General Manager at Saratoga Casino Hotel. “Every year we see amazing support from our community and team members and we are proud to continue our annual drives to assist the American Red Cross in saving lives.”

Cash Me Out, 2019 Horse of the Year, Returns on Opening Day

Cash Me Out (Cash Hall), the 2019 Horse of the Year at Saratoga Casino Hotel, made his return to town on opening day of the ’21 campaign on Monday afternoon. The Kyle Spagnola-trained superstar trotter went coast-to-coast with Phil Fluet in the sulky in the matinee’s $9,100 featured race for high-steppers. A perennial champion at Saratoga, Cash Me Out was named Trotter and Horse of the Year in 2019 after having a monster season. After a solid ’20 campaign, Cash Me Out began this year racing mostly at Yonkers with moderate success before competing on opening day at the Spa. Fluet moved the ten year old gelding out to the early lead on Monday and the millionaire trotter took it from there. The public’s 3-5 betting favorite had little difficulty wiring the field to register his first win of the season, stopping the timer in 1:58.1. Gruden (Billy Dobson) went a big mile overcoming post eight to finish second while another occasional Open Trot participant of seasons past Cartier Volo (Brett Crawford) earned the show spot. Cash Me Out’s victory was the 58th in his illustrious career for owner Mike Traylor of Ballston Spa, NY. For Spagnola, the score in the feature was one of two on the afternoon as his Manruptcy toughed out a first-over journey to prevail in 2:02.1 with Shawn Gray in the bike.

Live racing takes place every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Saratoga this spring with a Noon first post time each day. The track unveiled two new wagers on the platform on Monday with a $.20 Jackpot Pick Six and a $.20 Jackpot Super High 5, the latter of which is offered in the final race on the card.

Donors Needed for Saratoga Casino Hotel Blood Drive Jan. 18

Donors Needed for Saratoga Casino Hotel Blood Drive Jan. 18

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (Jan. 11, 2021) — The Saratoga community is invited to be the lifeline patients need this winter by donating blood with the American Red Cross at Saratoga Casino Hotel on Monday, Jan. 18, noon-6 p.m. at 342 Jefferson St.

Appointments are strongly encouraged in order to observe social distancing. To schedule an appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code SARATOGACASINO or call 1-800-REDCROSS.

The Red Cross and the NFL are partnering this January, during National Blood Donor Month, to urge individuals – especially those who have recovered from COVID-19 – to give blood and to help tackle the national convalescent plasma shortage. Those who come to give blood, platelets or plasma in January 2021 will automatically be entered for a chance to win a getaway to the 2022 Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles. As an extra thank-you from the Red Cross, those who come to give Jan. 1-20, 2021, will also be automatically entered to win a Big Game at Home package, which includes a 65-inch television and $500 gift card toward food and fun so their household can enjoy an awesome viewing experience safely at home. Terms apply; visit RedCrossBlood.org/SuperBowl for more information.

Over the past decade, Saratoga Casino Hotel blood drives have collected 1,100 pints of blood.

“We are extremely proud to continue our commitment to the American Red Cross with our annual blood drive,” said Alex Tucker, General Manager at Saratoga Casino Hotel. “Our team members and community always respond with tremendous support, and that is needed now more than ever during such a critical time.”

The winter months can be especially difficult to collect enough blood and platelets to meet patient needs. Inclement weather can result in blood drive cancellations, and seasonal illnesses, like the flu, can prevent some donors from making or keeping appointments to give. Add in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and healthy blood donors can play a big part in ensuring lifesaving treatments are available for patients throughout the winter months.

Blood donation safety precautions
To protect the health and safety of Red Cross staff and donors, individuals who do not feel well or who believe they may be ill with COVID-19 should postpone their donation.

Each Red Cross blood drive and donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and additional precautions – including temperature checks, social distancing and face coverings for donors and staff – have been implemented to help protect the health of all those in attendance. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at the drive and are required to wear a face covering or mask while at the drive, in alignment with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention public guidance.

About blood donation
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.

Saratoga County and the City of Saratoga Springs Pass Resolutions in Support of Reopening Saratoga Casino Hotel

Saratoga County and the City of Saratoga Springs Pass Resolutions
in Support of Reopening Saratoga Casino Hotel

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (August 20, 2020) – On Tuesday, both the City of Saratoga Springs and the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors passed resolutions at their respective meetings in support of reopening Saratoga Casino Hotel. Each resolution sites the support of the casino’s “Safe Bet” reopening plan and urges state authorities to give their fullest possible consideration to the reopening of the casino.

“We cannot underestimate the value that Saratoga Casino Hotel brings to the City of Saratoga Springs,” stated Saratoga Springs Mayor, Meg Kelly. “They have been working diligently to establish and implement safety procedures that are in line with NYSDOH and CDC guidelines which ensures all patrons and staff are safe. I support the reduced capacity reopening of Saratoga Casino Hotel to get people back to work and for their patrons to safely resume normal activities in our community.”

The casino closed on March 16 following the New York State stay-at-home mandate and has not yet been permitted to reopen by the state. Over the last several months, Saratoga Casino Hotel has developed a plan to implement physical modifications as well as policy and procedural changes to protect the health and safety of team members and guests. The “Safe Bet” plan focuses on preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus through heightened standards in cleanliness and sanitation; installation of MERV 13 air filters; enforcing social distancing with the use of floor guides, plexiglass barriers and taking every other machine out of service; requiring masks at all times while on property except when seated in a restaurant; and conducting temperature checks and asking screening questions upon entry. The casino is also prepared to provide contact tracing through the use of ID scanners if required by the state.

“I’m happy the County was able to support the reopening of the Saratoga Casino Hotel. After reviewing their “Safe Bet” plan I am convinced they can do it safely and securely,” stated Matt Veitch, Saratoga County Supervisor, representing the City of Saratoga Springs. “It is critical that we support Saratoga Casino Hotel’s “Safe Bet” reopening plan as they are a prime economic driver for the County, and they support jobs, education, and the Harness Racing Industry.”

“We graciously thank our locally elected officials for their show of support in unanimously passing the resolution in favor of reopening the casino,” said Alex Tucker, Saratoga Casino Hotel General Manager.  “We appreciate the confidence that the Saratoga Springs City Council and the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors have that the casino can safely re-open as so many others have done across the country. Reopening the casino is vital to the local economy and will bring hundreds of team members back to work, while producing revenues to aid education, sustain harness racing beyond September, and will shore up the tax base of the City and County in these uncertain times.”

Saratoga Casino Hotel is prepared to open as soon as permitted by the state.

Saratoga Casino Hotel Issues WARN Notices to Furloughed Team Members

Saratoga Casino Hotel Issues WARN Notices to Furloughed Team Members

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (July 15, 2020) – Saratoga Casino Hotel announced today that they have issued Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN Act) notices to their currently 401 furloughed team members. More than 80 percent of the company’s workforce was impacted by the properties temporary closure beginning March 16 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the initial closure, all furloughed team members received salary and wages for two weeks and currently all team members remain covered by the company’s health insurance.

Saratoga Casino Hotel will issue the legally required WARN Act notices due to circumstances beyond the company’s control and the uncertainty surrounding when the property will be allowed to reopen.  Federal law requires large employers to issue WARN notices when a furlough or layoff is reasonably expected to stretch beyond six-months, and at this time it remains unclear as to when team members would be allowed to return to work. Advanced notice gives workers, their families, and communities time to transition, seek new employment, and enter workforce training programs.

Saratoga Casino Hotel has developed a multi-layered “Safe Bet” plan to implement physical modifications as well as policy and procedural changes to protect the health and safety of team members and guests. The plan follows all guidelines set forth by the CDC and the New York State Department of Health to ensure the safest environment possible and minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19 pathogens. Saratoga Casino Hotel is prepared to open as soon as permitted by the state.
