Saratoga Springs, NY
Birthplace: New Zealand
Birth date: 9/7/1968
Ray got his start in the business with his father who trained horses. He had his first driving victory in 1989 driving The Optimist on a grass track in New Zealand. While driving in New Zealand Ray represented the South Island in the Driving Nationals for five years from 1989 to 1993.
When Ray first came to the U.S. he worked for Linda Toscano at Show Place Farm. He took care of the pacing mare, Molly Can Do It, who won the 2002 Breeder's Crown at the Meadowlands.
Ray returned to New Zealand to start his own training career, but came back to the U.S. in 2008 bringing six horses from New Zealand. Ray raced in New Jersey and eventually sold those horses and took a rider's job with Joe Holloway.
In 2011 Ray moved to Saratoga Springs, NY and resumed training on his own. He lists his favorite horses as Molly Can Do It, Montecito N and Fake Chance (NZ).
When he is not working with the horses Ray enjoys golf, rugby and cricket.
