Melissa grew up in the horse business.  Her dad, Jerry Silverman, is a trainer, and her brother, Richie is a driver.  Melissa actually started working with horses when she met Mark seventeen years ago (1992).  They started in Maryland, then to New Jersey before settling at Saratoga.  Her husband, Mark also helps with the stable of horses.

Melissa named Renoir as her favorite horse.  She has been at the top of the trainer standings for the past two years.  Melissa was voted Horsewoman of the Year by the USHWA in 2009 and again in 2011, as well as Trainer of the 2011 Year.  When away from the horses, Melissa enjoys spending time with her children, Carly and Brett.
