Maureen Salino’s first exposure to harness racing was through her father, Stanley “Red” MacPherson, who worked for many years for Howard Parker. When her father moved to New Jersey in 1985, she moved with him where she worked for Jack Friedhof, then for Tony Strolla. When Maureen’s father got sick in 1988, she moved back to Saratoga and worked for Kim Crawford and met her husband, Frank Salino. In 1990, Maureen went to work for Frank as a groom. In 1994, Maureen would take over the training. Maureen and Frank w ere married In 1995. In 1996, Maureen would win the USHWA Horsewoman of the Year, an honor she would repeat in 1997 and 1998.

1997 was a banner year for Maureen and the Salino stable as they dominated year-end honors. To start with, there was the Saratoga Trotter of the Year CMF Manchester. In addition, there was Camfastic, who was voted Saratoga’s Pacer of the Year and Horse of the Year. To complete the trifecta, there was Isn’t She Lovfilly, voted Mare of the Year. Among the better horses from the Salino stable in 1998 include Caesars Scooter and Kentucky Spirit.

Maureen trained 1999 Filly & Mare Pacer of the Year, Isn’t She Lovfilly, ending the year with a mark of 1:56(VD¾) and stats of 32 - 7-6-3 and earnings of $27,346 for the season. Isn’t She Lovfilly was elected into the Hall of Fame in 2002.

One highlight of her career was winning a NJSS at Freehold Raceway in 2001 with PH Factor.

Her favorite horses are Youngbitatrouble, (who she won her first race with), CMF Manchester and PH Factor.

Maureen’s hobbies include horseback riding and cooking.

Maureen and Frank have two daughters.

Maureen’s horses are often seen racing in the top Open classes and has been regular campaigner in the top 15 of the trainer standings each year.
