The like able Mark Whitcroft followed his father, George, into harness racing, helping his dad at Greenwood, Mohawk (both in Ontario), Buffalo and Pompano before finishing high school in 1980. Mark began his driving the following year and won his first race at Buffalo Raceway in 1982.

Mark came to Saratoga in 1983 and took a job with Percy Davis. He began training for himself in 1985 with the help of his lovely wife, Cheryl Davis Whitcroft, when Mark was awarded the Johnny Page award for up-and-coming driver of the year. Cheryl, who learned the harness racing business from her father, Percy, became the Whitcroft Stable trainer in 1989, leaving Mark free to catch-drive.

Mark lists Jonny Tripntrot as his favorite horse, as he was born and raised by Mark and Cheryl. His hobbies include hunting and hockey.
