Ballston Spa , NY
Birthplace: Batavia, NY
Birthdate: 9/14/60
Colors: Black-Gold

John Mongeon, Jr. grew up in a racing family. His father, John Sr., was a top driver at Vernon Downs and Saratoga in the late 60s and early 70s, and most of John’s brothers and sisters are involved in harness racing at Saratoga to some degree.

John Jr. traveled from track to track as a child, moving to the Saratoga area by 1971. He was named a junior driving champion in ‘78, graduated from Saratoga High in ‘79 and then worked as second trainer for his father for several years. The pair did some winter traveling at out-of-state tracks before John settled at the Spa Ova., helping out at other stables and training a few here and there. His first driving win was Jade Ouette (1979) at Saratoga. One of the high points of his career was winning the Horse of the Year Award, 2004, with Flapjack Attack. John’s favorites include Anoush, Mohawk Skipper, Omega Angel, Rodeo Spree, Flapjack Attack and Seaway Shane.

John trained 2009 Filly & Mare Pacer of the Year Hidden Touch, owned by Michael Riggi, Michael Lotano, Claude Bourgeois and Perry Lotano.

Hobbies and other interests include hockey and golf; but “my biggest outside interest is spending time with my awesome daughters and my lovely wife. He feels lucky to be able to work at a job he loves and for which he has a passion.
