Jay Randall (D)
Ballston Spa, NY
Birthplace: Hudson, NY
Birthdate: 5/1/63
Colors: Blue-White-Gold
Jay Randall was raised in Valatie, NY, but was familiar with Saratoga Raceway; his father, John raced horses from the early 60’s to the 80’s. Jay won Junior Driving Championship in 1977, his first pari-mutuel win coming at Saratoga a year later with one of his father’s horses, Liberal Arts. He was driving professionally by 1980.
Jay worked for Bill O’Donnell and Howard Parker before setting up his own stable in 1981. He won the Johnny Page award in 1982 and raced at Saratoga until early 1984, when Jay moved to Monticello. He was among the top three drivers there for the next several years. Jay changed bases to Yonkers in 1987, where he met with moderate success, and moved back to Saratoga with wife Dawn in 1990. A few years later, Jay moved on down to The Meadowlands— having a successful season there. With job location changes for his wife, they moved back to Saratoga in the summer of 2005.
Jay immediately picked up catch drives and was again on his way to being one of the top catch-drivers at Saratoga. Jay finished 12th in the 2010 driver standings at Saratoga Harness. Jay finished 9th in the 2012 driver standings at Saratoga.
